As a child I could hardly stand the wait for Christmas to get here! It just seemed as if time stood still. I was excited because I knew there would be some presents under the tree with my name on them!
I still find it somewhat difficult to wait for Christmas. I love the beauty of the decorations, the special Christmas foods. And, yes, I still wonder what's under the tree for me. Although, now, my greatest joy is watching my family open their gifts. How fun it is to watch their eyes sparkle as they wonder what's in that present. And then to see their joy when they get it opened.
I think back to Mary around 2,000 years ago. History tells us that she was only about fourteen or fifteen years old when the angel of the Lord told her she was going to be the Mother of Jesus! Jesus was God's Son! I wonder about the anticipation and fear she felt as she listened to the angle say, "Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you...Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of his father, David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His Kingdom will never end."
Those same emotions I had about Christmas as a child, I also had for church. I loved going to church. I could be with my friends. And my Sunday School teacher was super. Then on Wednesday nights we had Caravans, which is similar to Boy Scouts.
As I got older, I began to look at church a little differently. Oh, I still enjoy receiving Gods blessings, but now i enjoy even more watching others find His gifts of love, mercy, and grace. And to watch someone find salvation is one of the greatest experiences you can have.
God's church has something for everyone. God has promised to meet your every needs, no matter how small or big. He will lift you when you're down. He will encourage you when you're discouraged; give you peace when you're troubled; and He will give you eternal life.
Why don't your come and see for yourself. We would love to have you become part of our church family. Bring your anticipation and come on in! You never know what you might find.
Have a very Merry Christmas, and hope to see you in church Sunday.
